Silica gel is a high-activity absorbent with the capability of absorbing more than 30% moisture of its weight.

It has a stable chemical property and never reacts with any substances except the alkai and hydrofluoric acid, which decides it has a lot of features that can't be replaced by other materials, such as high absorption capacity, non-toxic, oderless and environment friendly. 

And silica gel is the only desiccant can contact with the food and pharmaceuticals by FDA approval.
